The official German language certificate by the German government

The German Language Diploma (DSD) is the official German language proficiency certification by the German government.
The DSD exams are designed to assess language proficiency and are recognized by German universities, employers, and government agencies.

The DSD diploma is also a valuable credential for students in the US since and can be used to obtain the Georgia Seal of Biliteracy. High school language credit and/or credit at universities may also be available.

DSD I corresponds to Level B1 of the Common European Framework of References for Languages (CEFR)  

  • Provides proof of German language proficiency required for admission to preparatory courses at “Studienkollegien” in Germany 
  • Can be an entry-ticket to a German university

DSD II corresponds to Levels B2 and C1 of the CEFR 

  • Provides proof of German language proficiency required for admission to institutions of higher education in Germany
  • Generally recognized by German universities, employers, and government agencies
